This cottage was designed by Boston architect William Ralph Emerson and built by contractor John E. Clark in the winter of 1885-86. The original owner was W.B. Walley. The house was located on Eden Street and was torn down in 1979. The cottage name is sometimes misspelled as Bournemouth.

Place: Southwest Harbor Description: Earl Gott's house has had a varied history. It was begun on the Fernald Point Road, west of the Country Club house by Benjamin Gilley. His wife died before it was completed and he sold the house to Frank Higgins. Mr. Higgins never finished it and in 1883 he sold it to S. W. Herrick, who moved it to the junction of the Clark Point and High Roads and used it as a store for thirty-five years or more. After Mr. Herrick's death, his daughter sold the building to Earll Gott who moved it to his lot on the High Road where he occupies it as a home, having entirely remodeled and improved it. [show more]
