Description: “In 1897, the different societies in the village combined to raise funds for street lights. The lamps were bought and placed near those houses whose owners were willing to furnish the kerosene and keep the lamps trimmed and lighted. Description: The Town Clock was presented to the town of Eden (later named Bar Harbor) for its centennial celebration in July 1896 by the Bar Harbor Village Improvement Association. The clock is located on Main St. by the Village Green. The Town Clock is a reminder of earlier times when clocks of its kind were more commonplace. This photo was taken by Kathy MacLeod, who was a Bar Harbor Village Improvement Association Board Member from 2015-2020.
Description: The village of Northeast Harbor is situated on the southern end of Mount Desert Island at the entrance to Somes Sound and it is part of the Town of Mount Desert. Its harbor is one of the most well-protected on the island and operates year-round. The town has long been home to a renowned summer community.
Description: The settlement of Hall Quarry in located in the town of Mount Desert on Mount Desert Island and was home to a granite quarry. The quarry's location alongside of Somes Sound proved very beneficial, as it allowed the schooners to land very close to the quarry to load the granite and transport it to various ports.
